Impact of event/topic during the Civil Rights Era:
During the 1950's, the Civil Rights movement prompted many of the Native Americans. Their goal was to assert themselves as equals among citizens in the U.S. Some of the high-standing Native American Rights Activists were Dennis Banks, Clyde Bellecourt, Eddie Benton-Bonai, and George Mitchell started the American Indian Movement. The name of their group was "Red Power". "Red Power" was formed to promote Indians Rights as citizens in the U.S. During the American Indian Movement, the Indians Rights supporters started using spray paint to spray the words "Red Power" over Black Power signs. Dennis Banks was a major impact on Native Americans. He was the founder of "Red Power" and was also one of the major civil rights activists. Dennis Banks had made a huge impact on American Indians by fighting for them as a citizen of the U.S. The "Red Power" was an event that occurred before Wounded Knee.

There have been many problems with American Indian and gambling reservations. In the 1980's and 90's the Native Americans legalized gambling on there reservations. The reason being for this was to gain profit for their tribes. This helped them keep up to date with the rest of the country. In 2002 the Native Americans elected the first female bishop. This high-standing female American Indian currently belongs to the the Episcopal Church.
